Can You Guess Who She Is? The Remarkable Life of This 1960s TV and Film Icon

Now 90 years old, Shirley MacLaine remains one of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars. Bursting onto the scene in 1955 with Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble with Harry, she went on to dazzle audiences in classics like The Apartment, Irma la Douce, and Terms of Endearment. Even in recent years, though less in the spotlight, MacLaine has continued to act — driven by her love for storytelling and the lessons she gains from every role.

Their only child, Sachi Parker, spent much of her childhood abroad and in European boarding schools, leading to a bond between mother and daughter that was often strained.

Sachi has been candid about feelings of isolation and emotional distance, chronicling her experiences in her memoir Lucky Me: My Life With — and Without — My Mom. She longed for the stability of a traditional home life, while Shirley embraced a freer, non-traditional lifestyle that often put career first.

She described Lemmon as more of a “sister,” and joked that Nicholson’s humor would have made an affair impossible: “I would laugh too much

Today, Shirley enjoys a quieter pace at her New Mexico ranch, surrounded by her beloved pets and close friends. While her romantic life has taken a back seat, she continues to find fulfillment in her work and personal passions. Sachi, now a mother herself, uses the lessons from her own childhood to foster a warmer, more connected family life.
