Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov faces backlash for saying, “final nail in the coffin” about keeping Donald Trump off the 2024 ballot. Critics accuse her of using dangerous rhetoric and are calling for her dismissal from the network.

Jessica Tarlov, a Democratic strategist and co‑host on The Five, is facing intense backlash after recent remarks made during a broadcast that many critics consider dangerously provocative. On air, discussing the 2024 presidential election, she said, “This is the chance to put the final nail in the coffin so that you don’t have Donald Trump on the ballot again.” That comment has sparked a wave of outrage, given the volatile political climate and past assassination attempts against Trump.

Supporters of Trump and conservative commentators argue that Tarlov’s language crosses a line — one they believe should not be tolerated on national television. On social media, many immediately called for her dismissal, accusing her of inciting violence and recklessly contributing to political hostility. One user demanded: “She needs to be FIRED immediately.” Another wrote, “This b**ch is why I stopped watching Fox News,” while others called for mandatory counseling or permanent removal from the show.

The uproar is particularly sharp because the comment came amid real-world violence against Trump. In recent months, Trump has survived multiple assassination attempts — events that his supporters have blamed on inflammatory rhetoric from media and political figures. For many critics, Tarlov’s “coffin” metaphor couldn’t have come at a worse time, and they view it not as mere hyperbole, but as a dangerous provocation that could inspire further violence.

Some of Tarlov’s defenders argue the remark was just a figure of speech — a dramatic metaphor, not a literal call for harm. They suggest that in a heated political setting, such language is not uncommon. But others maintain that public figures, especially on mainstream news outlets, carry responsibility for their words — and that when tensions are already high, striking imagery like “final nail in the coffin” is irresponsible and inflammatory.

Calls for Tarlov’s firing have also translated into organized petitions. One petition on Change.org demands that the network replace her with another voice, citing a desire for “integrity and truth over misleading commentary.” While such petitions may only represent a fraction of the audience, they reflect a broader dissatisfaction among some viewers — particularly those who feel the network has betrayed their expectations of fairness and balance.
