14-Year-Old Girl Dies Following Plastic Surgery
A Shocking Loss
The death of 14-year-old Paloma Nicole in Durango has shaken Mexico,
raising questions about parental consent, medical ethics, and legal responsibility.
The Tragedy
Paloma’s mother told her father, Carlos Arellano, she was taking the girl to the mountains.
Days later, Carlos learned Paloma was in critical condition at Clínica Santa María after a heart and lung attack.
Despite treatment, she was declared brain dead on September 20.
Allegations of Surgery
Carlos accused Paloma’s mother and Dr. V.M.M.R.G.—allegedly her stepfather—of negligence,
claiming his daughter had cosmetic surgery without his consent.
“Scars discovered during the wake proved the procedures,”
he said, while also alleging the death certificate falsely cited “illness.”
Investigation and Outcry
The Durango State Prosecutor confirmed an inquiry is underway.
At her September 22 funeral, hundreds gathered as Carlos vowed justice.
The case has ignited debate over minors undergoing cosmetic surgery and the safeguards clinics must follow.
