🇺🇦🇺🇸Iryna Zarutska fled Ukraine in 2022 ‘seeking safety from the war’ and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina alongside her mother, sister and brother.

She quickly embraced her new life in the U.S. and managed to become fluent in English ‘within a very short time.’

She was a gifted and passionate artist who had a ‘vibrant spirit’ and a ‘deep love of animals’, according to her family.

“Though she enjoyed adventures, sightseeing, and exploring new places with her close friends, Iryna was also a homebody at heart, happiest when surrounded by family and loved ones.”

She also loved animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian assistant.

Iryna also got a job at a pizzeria in Charlotte to pay the bills, while learning to drive to secure her independence.

On August 22nd she had finished a long shift and boarded a train home in her work uniform.

But she never made it home.

She was stabbed to death on the train in a random attack by career criminal Decarlos Brown Jr., who had been arrested 14 times.

Zarutska’s family declined to have her body returned to Ukraine because they have said she would have wanted to be buried in the US because “she loved America.”
