Seven members of the esteemed gospel group, the Nelons, tragically lost their lives in a plane crash. Among the victims were pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa, family associate Melanie Hodges, their daughter Amber, her spouse Nathan Kistler, as well as Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark. In a poignant statement, Autumn Nelon Streetman, the sole survivor who was not aboard the aircraft, expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support.
The Nelons’ aircraft went down in Wyoming while en route to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise. Eyewitnesses reported that the plane crashed to the ground engulfed in flames. Despite the prompt response from emergency personnel, there were no survivors.
The Nelons were celebrated for their significant contributions to gospel music, with popular songs such as “I Shall Not Be Moved,” “Come Morning,” and “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown.” In recognition of their impact, they were inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016. The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the incident.
