The journalist told the story as a guest host on ‘Today with Jenna & Friends’

Savannah Guthrie’s son doesn’t want her to attend any of his school parties.

While guest hosting Today with Jenna & Friends on Tuesday, May 20, Guthrie, 53, shared that her son Charley, 8, asked her not to come to his school’s party, leaving her good friend Jenna Bush Hager, 43, shocked.

My kids are so embarrassed of me right now. And you know what I tell them? Loud moms build character, guys,” says Guthrie.

“Now when I’m listening to music, they turn it down when they get out of the car,” Bush Hager explains. “I’m like, ‘Why are you embarrassed of me singing along to Gracie Abrams? They’re like, ‘Shhh!’”

Guthrie says that “everything” she does embarrasses her kids nowadays and notes that her son had actually been so embarrassed by her, he’d made a surprising ask.

“Actually, my little boy, he is 8. They’re having a May Day at school, which is a little event. And there’s an after party in their second grade homeroom, and he literally said to me this morning, ‘Mommy, I want you to come to May Day but I do not want you to come to the after party,’ ” Guthrie shares.
