Sánchez Ramírez, Dominican Republic – Amidst an atmosphere of deep sorrow, the remains of Pennsylvania Mercedes Jiménez Valdez, 36 years old, and her three children, aged 7, 9, and 11, were buried this Monday at the Angelina Municipal Cemetery, in the Sánchez Ramírez province.
Before the burial, the bodies were laid in state at the Vediris Funeral Home, located in the Rincón Moreno community, where family members, friends, and neighbors gathered to say goodbye to the victims of this tragedy that has shocked the nation.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Ensanche Isabelita, Santo Domingo Este, when the mother is believed to have given her children a juice mixed with a toxic substance, and then ingested the same mixture herself, leading to a fatal outcome.
The communities of Angelina and Rincón Moreno united in a solemn farewell, where words of comfort were spoken, and calls for reflection were made regarding the importance of mental health and community prevention to avoid situations like this from repeating.
