Janice Dean hasn\u2019t appeared on\u00a0Fox & Friends<\/em>\u00a0recently, and now she\u2019s explaining her absence from the show.<\/p>\n

The meteorologist, who joined the Fox News program in 2004,\u00a0detailed why she\u2019s been off the air\u00a0in a social media post Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to let you all know that I\u2019m taking a break from work (and social media) for a bit,\u201d Dean wrote. \u201cI\u2019m ok, but I\u2019ve had some health issues that require rest and time to heal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The TV journalist went on to say that her Fox bosses have been \u201ckind and understanding\u201d in the wake of her illness. \u201cI feel blessed to be able to take a break to be with my family,\u201d she said, adding that a recent pilgrimage to Italy with her husband was a restorative experience. \u201cThe trip to Rome with Sean was a good place to start healing spiritually, and now I have to get back to feeling healthy and strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean concluded her remarks with a resolution to return to Fox News in the future. \u201cI\u2019ve always been up front and honest about my life, and I felt I owed you an explanation of my absence,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBut, I will be back. Grateful to you all for the kind words.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. She has been vocal about her condition in the past, detailing her experience with the chronic illness in her 2019 book\u00a0Mostly Sunny: How I Learned to Keep Smiling Through the Rainiest Days<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The meteorologist\u00a0commemorated\u00a0the 20th anniversary of her diagnosis on Instagram last month.<\/p>\n

\u201c20 years ago I was diagnosed with #multiplesclerosis, and was told to stay quiet about the illness, because \u2018No one wants to see a sick person on TV,\u2019\u201d she wrote. \u201cHappy I didn\u2019t listen. To all those who share this disease, I will continue to stand tall, be an advocate and raise awareness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean also reflected on her MS journey in an\u00a0interview with PEOPLE\u00a0last year. \u201cSometimes think I\u2019m a better person because of the diagnosis, if that makes any sense,\u201d she said. \u201cThis made me realize what was important in life, like your health and your family and your support system.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she\u2019s grateful that her example can help inspire others with chronic illness. \u201cIf you see somebody who\u2019s doing something, even though they might be dealing with something else, you feel hopeful, right?\u201d Dean said. \u201cI\u2019ve heard people say, \u2018I see you on TV with a big smile on your face, and that makes me feel that I can do it too.\u2019 That\u2019s really powerful. Sometimes it\u2019s just the one glimmer of sunshine peeking through the clouds. It\u2019s like, \u2018Okay, yeah.
