WASHINGTON \u2014<\/b> The U.S. Senate reconvened amid the longest shutdown in American history, now stretching into its 37th day. Behind closed doors, tempers are boiling as President Donald Trump presses Republican leaders to take the nuclear step: end the filibuster once and for all.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Politico, Senate Majority Leader <\/span>John Thune<\/b> is negotiating a short-term deal with Democrats to fund parts of the government through next January. But that still requires 60 votes \u2014 the very rule Trump now wants to destroy.<\/span><\/p>\n

At an Oval Office press conference, Trump declared, \u201cIt\u2019s time for them to end the filibuster and put everybody back to work. Vote in voter ID, no mail-in voting except for military. One-day voting, secure borders, fair immigration laws \u2014 we could do it all ourselves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s comments came just a day after a heated breakfast meeting with GOP senators at the White House, where he reportedly clashed with <\/span>Sen. Lindsey Graham<\/b>. \u201cLindsey, you and I both know there\u2019s so much you can\u2019t do with reconciliation,\u201d Trump shot back, warning Republicans that their party risked becoming \u201ca dead party\u201d if they failed to act.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the Capitol, sources say tension is high. While <\/span>Thune<\/b> insists the filibuster is staying \u2014 calling it a protection against \u201clegislative chaos\u201d \u2014 Trump\u2019s supporters argue it\u2019s time to bulldoze the old rules and start governing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Democrats are weighing their own strategy, considering whether to back a partial funding bill in exchange for a future vote on healthcare subsidies \u2014 a move that could break the impasse but deepen party divisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the standoff drags on, thousands of federal workers remain unpaid, and the public grows restless. But Trump\u2019s message couldn\u2019t be clearer: \u201cEnd it now, or we\u2019ll never fix America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
