Makeup, dirt, or pore-clogging (comedogenic) ingredients can also block pores and prevent oil from flowing. Comedogenic simply means pore-clogging, and while such ingredients aren\u2019t the only cause of acne, they make breakouts more likely. Dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, MD, explains that for people with naturally oily skin or acne-causing bacteria, using comedogenic products is \u201clike adding gas to the fire,\u201d worsening acne and leading to frequent pimples.<\/p>\n
