President Donald Trump has confirmed that the suspect in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is in custody.<\/p>\n

The suspect has now been identified as Tyler Robinson, who is believed to be 22 years old and a local from Utah.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Confirming that he was now in custody, Trump stated on Friday, “I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him.”<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The announcement came after Trump spoke on Fox News, <\/a>revealing that someone close to the suspect had turned him in.<\/p>\n

Trump elaborated, saying, “Somebody who was very close to him turned him in,” adding that Robinson\u2019s father reportedly drove him to a police station, where he was handed over to authorities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Trump further commented, “I hope he\u2019s going to be found guilty and I hope he gets the death penalty for what he did.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In a press conference held by the FBI on Friday, further details about the suspect were revealed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Robinson is said to have confessed to family that he had committed the fatal incident.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

FBI have examined footage and has confirmed that Robinson is the individual seen running away following the shooting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The young man was said to have become more “political” in recent years. He had mentioned Kirk’s event at the college in Utah and stated that Kirk was “spreading hate”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Robinson’s roommate turned over private Discord messages that Robinson had shared with him. The messages included the need to “retrieve a rifle from a drop point” and where the rifle had been left.<\/p>\n

As for the firearm, inscriptions found on casing of the rifle read: “Hey Fascist! Catch!” another read “Bella Ciao”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Another read “If you read this, you are gay, lmfao”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Trump has described Kirk as “the finest person” who did not deserve to be killed. The president also stated, “Everybody liked him,” emphasizing the positive impact Kirk had made in the conservative community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The shooting occurred on September 10, 2025, while Kirk was addressing a group of university students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. During a Q&A session, Kirk was struck in the neck by a single shot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Following the shooting, law enforcement officials detained two individuals, but both were released after being questioned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
