In 2015, he underwent the most extensive face transplant ever, a 26-hour surgery led by Dr. Eduardo D. Rodriguez at NYU Langone Medical Center. His donor, 26-year-old David Rodebaugh, had been declared brain dead after a bike accident.

Despite a 50/50 chance of survival, the surgery was a success. Patrick received a new face, eyelids, ears, nose, and scalp. Over time, his swelling reduced, and he regained the ability to blink and swallow.

Today, Patrick lives a new life, spreading a message of hope.
