- As California proceeds to file emergency lawsuits to halt President Trump’s National Guard deployments, the president swiftly countered Governor Newsom’s recent criticisms within minutes.
During a press conference in the Oval Office, President Trump was inquired about his last conversation with Governor Newsom. “It was a day ago. I called him to inform him that he needs to improve; he is performing poorly, resulting in numerous deaths and potential fatalities,” the president replied.
“Had we not deployed the National Guard, and previously provided them with some extra assistance, Los Angeles would be engulfed in flames right now. The situation in Los Angeles would not differ much from what you witnessed occurring in California, and indeed, Los Angeles would be burning right now.”
Governor Newsom subsequently took to X to assert that he had not received any phone call from the president. “There was no call. Not even a voicemail,” he stated.
“Americans should be concerned that a President who is sending Marines to our streets is unaware of whom he is communicating with,” Newsom, who submitted an emergency petition on Tuesday to prevent the deployments, remarked.
Shortly after Newsom’s post was published, Trump reached out to Fox News host John Roberts while aboard Air Force One to contest Newsom’s assertions. “The first call went unanswered. On the second call, Gavin answered, and we spoke for 16 minutes. I essentially told him to ‘get his act together’ and put an end to the riots, which were spiraling out of control,” Trump informed Roberts.
“Above all, this illustrates what a liar he is – he claimed I never called. Here is the proof.” The president subsequently presented a call log that displayed one missed call from Newsom, followed by their 16-minute discussion.
Newsom has consistently held President Trump responsible for the turmoil, despite the fact that it began two days prior to the mobilization of National Guard units, when far-left groups assaulted ICE agents conducting deportation operations in the city’s fashion district. The mob later encircled a federal building and attacked agents with rocks, hammers, and clubs.
Similar acts of violence were reported in Paramount, California on Saturday, where rioters hurled large boulders at moving ICE vehicles. Several agents sustained injuries, and the main suspect has been placed on the FBI’s most wanted list.
“Donald Trump has fostered the conditions you are witnessing on your television tonight. He has intensified the situation. He has, you know, ignited the proverbial match. He has been fueling this fire ever since he declared he was taking control of the National Guard in an unlawful, immoral, and unconstitutional manner, and we will challenge that assertion with a lawsuit tomorrow,” the governor expressed in a tirade on Sunday night.
